Ken Doherty
Irish Snooker Champion
Ken Doherty won the Irish Amateur Championship twice and the World Amateur Championship, before turning professional in 1990. Seven years later, ‘The Darlin’ of Dublin’ won the World Snooker Championship, beating Stephen Hendry in the Scot’s first world final defeat. His victory makes him one of only two players to have won the amateur and professional world titles.
The former world number two went onto win six ranking titles and reached a further two World Championship finals. Crafty Ken currently combines his playing career with punditry and commentary work with the likes of the BBC.
